MOLASSES IN JANUARY Begins Previews May 9

Spanning 1915 to 1919, set against the backdrop of Boston's Italian North End Immigrants, MOLASSES IN JANUARY is a charming historical fiction musical that tells the story of Anna, a single mother doing her best to raise her children in a world caught up in the turmoil of the first World War. As rumors grow about the potential construction of an enormous molasses tank that will be used to make liquor and gun powder for the war, so do the hopes for potential prosperity. But suddenly on an unusually warm January day, the tank bursts and two million gallons of molasses come crashing down around Anna and her family discovers that life can change in a moment. The music of MOLASSES IN JANUARY is performed in the traditional style of the Great American Song Book, similar to Fiddler on the Roof and Gypsy.

The Great Molasses Flood, also known as the Boston Molasses Disaster or the Great Boston Molasses Flood, occurred on January 15,1919 in the North End neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. A large molasses storage tank burst, and a wave of molasses rushed through the streets at an estimated 35 mph (56 km/h), killing 21 and injuring 150. The event became part of local folklore and for decades afterwards residents claimed that on hot summer days the area still smelled of molasses.

The cast of MOLASSES IN JANUARY features Lianne Gennaco, Anie Delgado, Grace Experience, Cali LaSpina, Joe Marx, Joe Redman, Daniel Artuso, Zachary Harris Martin.

Performances are on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30PM and Saturdays at 5PM.

Francine Pellegrino, writer and composer of "Molasses in January" is a multi-talented writer, lyricist, composer, director, producer, artistand actress. She has also written and directed "Sweet Destiny", a feature film starring Abe Vigoda, Carmen, Frankie Avalon and Livingston Taylor. "Sweet Destiny", Academy Award qualified, was screened at Cannes and has received numerous awards in Film Festivals throughout the world. In addition, Francine has performed as a stand-up comic and acted in a number of television commercials and feature films. She is a member of SAG, Women in Film and Video, Dramatist Guild of America, Off -Broadway Alliance and Harvard Script Writers.

Director Whitney Stone is a Brooklyn-based director/choreographer who has been an active member of the theater community in NYC and its surrounding boroughs for the last decade. She is an associate member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, a member of the faculty at the Mark Morris Dance Center. She earned a BFA in Theatre Arts Performance and a minor in Dance from Hofstra University. Whitney has been with Molasses in January since the workshop productions in 2015. She directed and choreographed the limited run at the Davenport Theatre last fall, and she is so pleased that this project is being given a life at the Snapple Theater Center! Her other recent credits include Footloose (AfterWork Theater), Les Miserables (Locust Valley Jesters), and Something's Afoot (Maggie's Little Theater). As a choreographer, her credits include the world premiere of Nutcracker! The Musical (Westchester Sandbox Theatre), Saturday Night Fever (Theatre Three), Godspell (Jean's Playhouse), and The Me Nobody Knows (Adelphi University).
