Abingdon Theatre Company will present the world premiere of FREUDIAN SLIPS by Marvin Lifschitz, a comedy about madness in the human condition and the heartache of obsessive love, January 24 - February 15, 2009 in its Dorothy Strelsin Theatre. Official Opening is on Sunday, February 1, 2009. Tom Bloom directs.

Is Sigmund Freud going crazy? Obsessed with a beautiful female patient, he dreams of killing her lover. Falling in love proves a major distraction for Freud while he prepares to duel his rival, the mad Dr. Otto Brotto, for the very survival of psychoanalysis. FREUDIAN SLIPS asks, "What's an analyst to do?"

Marvin Lifschitz (Playwright) is a licensed psychoanalyst and practices in New York City and Westchester. He is on the faculty, supervisor, and training analyst at The Institute For Expressive Analysis, and the Westchester Institute For Training in Psychoanalysis. As a boy in Jersey City, he created dramatic and comedic stories for friends and relatives. He has written comedy for various groups and has also written a screenplay, The Evil Inclination, and another play Eternal Life. He is a published author of two books on psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.

Tom Bloom (Director) was co-founder and artistic director of two theatres, American Premiere Stage in Boston, and Theatre Group Limited in Vermont. He was the director of the acclaimed New England premiere of American Buffalo. In New England he directed at The Harvard Summer Rep, Theatre-By-The-Sea in NH, Gloucester Stage, Court Rep, and Rockport Stage. In New York, Tom has directed at Capital Rep in Albany, The Pearl Theatre, Circle Rep Lab, Independence Theatre Co., and The Writers' Theatre. He has been a Usual Suspect at New York Theatre Workshop, and worked in development at Williamstown, Berkshire Playwrights Lab, Manhattan Class Company, Primary Stages, Soho Rep, Playwrights Horizons, Merely Players, and True North. Tom has acted on Broadway in Henry IV, Cyrano, and Racing Demon. He's also appeared at Roundabout, Playwrights Horizons, Circle-In-The-Square, Classic Stage Company, Theatre For A New Audience, NY Stage & Film, and Lincoln Center. He has an extensive regional resume, as well as film and television.

The cast of FREUDIAN SLIPS features Sue Brady, Warren Kelley, Joel Leffert, Jason Marr, Allen Lewis Rickman, Margi Sharp, and David Smilow.

Lara Fabian is the Set Designer, Travis McHale is the Lighting Designer, Neville Bean and Nancy Nichols are Co-Costume Designers, and Margaret Pine is the Composer and Sound Designer. Aneta Feld is the Production Manager and Laurie Rae Waugh is the Production Stage Manager.

Performances of FREUDIAN SLIPS are Tues, Weds, Thurs at 7:00pm, Fri & Sat at 8:00pm and Sat & Sun at 2:00pm. The official opening night performance is on Sunday, February 1 at 5:00pm.

The Dorothy Strelsin Theatre at the Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex is located at 312 W. 36th Street, 1st Floor (between 8th and 9th Avenues).

The production closes on February 15.
