Italian evening. We can look forward to a repeat visit from the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra, this time playing Italian works. The Norwegian Baroque Orchestra is the first Scandinavian orchestra to specialise in performing Baroque music on original instruments. String instruments were popular in Italy in the Baroque era, and the art of violin making flourished. Such excellent violin makers as Amati, Guarnerius and Stradivarius all aimed to create the best violin tone while maintaining a high quality of craftsmanship. The orchestra’s artistic director, Gottfried von der Goltz, is also the artistic director of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, in addition to being one of the world’s leading Baroque violinists.
