Christine Brewer arrived late, but with a vengeance! She began her musical career as a violinist, and continued as a music teacher and choir member. After Birgit Nilsson heard her sing in a master class in the US, she went to Germany to begin as Nilsson’s student.
She is considered one of the world’s greatest dramatic sopranos, and was therefore the perfect choice when we arranged the Kirsten Flagstad tribute concert in 2010. On that occasion she gave a convincing performance as an intelligent interpreter and a devoted communicator. Her very popular accompanist Craig Rutenberg, who was also here last season, is employed by the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
