THE CZARDAS PRINCESS is Now Playing at Den Norske Opera

Performances run through 18 January.

THE CZARDAS PRINCESS is Now Playing at Den Norske Opera

Sylva is the star of the show, the heroine of the night, queen and diva. She takes everyone by storm, but ends up in rough weather herself. True love is at stake in an operetta that sparkles.

She comes from showbiz; he comes from business. She belongs to a colourful, queer gang at the theatre; he is from an upper class family with old money and new clothes. She used to be a man, but Edwin doesn't care about that - Sylva is the woman in his life and everything he dreams of.

Sylva and Edwin find each other. His parents don't like that. Besides, it's the Stasi he really should have. But Sylva does not let herself be stopped by prejudice, class differences or ingrained attitudes.

Set love free

The Princess of Czarda by Emmerich Kálmán is one of the world's most popular operettas and a captivating story about setting love free.

At the same time, it is about the painful shame of not being good enough: Who are we when we don't play? Who are we when we throw away the mask? And who are the others, behind all the staff?

Old flame, new production

Many have been looking forward to the return of the Princess of Czarda . For years, this hit machine played for full houses on Youngstorget, with singers such as Vessa Hanssen, Terje Stensvold, Jan Ragnvald Sødal, Anne Nyborg and Kjersti Ekeberg.

When the operetta is revived in Bjørvika, it will be in a completely new costume, signed by Hanne Tømta and her creative team. Among them is Alva Brosten, who is making his debut as a costume designer at the Opera.
