ShenanArts will hold auditions for BILLY ELLIOT next month.

AUDITION TIME/DATE: 10am-12noon (doors open at 9:30am) - Saturday, September 9

AUDITION LOCATION: SHENANARTS, 300 Churchville Avenue, Staunton VA

ABOUT THE SHOW:

Based on the wildly successful feature film that captured hearts and minds worldwide, BILLY ELLIOT is the funny, heartwarming tale of a young boy with a dream, and a feel-good celebration of his triumph against the odds. Bringing this gripping tale to the stage are none other than the original creative team; director Stephen Daldry, choreographer Peter Darling and writer Lee Hall-together with music legend Elton John.

CHARACTERS:

Billy Elliot: A boy who stumbles upon a ballet class and develops a passion for dance. To him, dance is a way to feel whole and free himself from the problems of life. He finds himself stuck between appeasing family and chasing his newfound love. Able to play 10-14 yr old male - C5 to E3

Michael: Billy's careless and fun-loving best friend. He lives in the realm of expressing oneself, going so far as to commonly dress in women's clothing. Able to play 10-14 yr old male - B4 to A#3

Performers of all ethnicities are encouraged to attend.

We are ONLY casting for the roles of Billy and Michael on Saturday, September 9, 2017.

We will be holding auditions for ALL OTHER ROLES (principles and ensemble) in October.

AUDITION DETAILS:

Have prepared a song (32 bars in the style of the show) with sheet music in the appropriate key - an accompanist will be provided.

Cold readings from the script are possible. Will be required to attempt Geordie accent during audition.

Be prepared to dance (wear comfortable clothing) and bring appropriate footwear (sneakers). Optional to bring: tap, ballet, jazz shoes.

If you have tap background/training bring 30 seconds of prepared tap number.

Provide a current resume and a headshot IF available.

REHEARSALS and SHOW DATES:

Light dance workshops/rehearsals to begin in mid-to-late September 2017 for Billy & Michael.

List all known major conflicts between December-March.

Show runs March 16-18 and 23-25, 2018
