OUR TOWN Transforms The Wells Theatre
Virginia Stage Company continues their 40th Anniversary Season with a new production that physically adapts the Wells Theatre in groundbreaking ways. Our Town, directed by Chris Hanna, is a seminal American classic that has never been so immediate and so universal. This Pulitzer Prize winner's enduring power lies in asking audiences to consider life's biggest questions in ways that are freshly challenging today, even as it creates an ordinary New England village onstage, circa 1900.
"Our Town explores what it means to be a member of a family, and a community, and a country, and the human race. It is about the small details of life and the staggering depth of humanity. It is one of the greatest American plays ever written, and we are proud to present it in our landmark 40th Season." - Tom Quaintance, Producing Artistic Director of Virginia Stage Company.
The imaginative design of the production's set will completely transform the Wells Theatre, including a stage that wraps around the audience and the addition of onstage seating. This exciting and innovative design will allow audiences to engage with the actors from a different perspective. With simple theatricality, honest emotion, and family friendly laughs, audiences find themselves swept up on a roller coaster for the soul, finally joining Emily in crying out: 'Oh, earth, you are too wonderful for anyone to realize you!'
Our Town has performances starting Wednesday, October 17 for three nights of previews with opening night on Saturday, October 20, and runs for three weeks, concluding November 4. Tickets range from $20 - $55 with special discounts for military, students, and groups.
