'MUSIC AND MIGHT' Tribute to Vietnam Veterans to Air on WHRO Image

Music and Might, the one-hour special airing on WHRO TV15 on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at 8:00 pm EST is a collaboration of the Virginia Arts Festival and WHRO.

This moving broadcast from the 2014 Virginia International Tattoo honors Vietnam War Veterans and their families, the fallen, and all organizations that supported the armed forces and our allies.

The broadcast will be shown in conjunction with WHRO's The Vietnam War, the ten-part, 18-hour documentary film series directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. Burns and Novick tell the epic story of the Vietnam War as it has never before been told on film, featuring testimony from nearly 100 witnesses.

The Virginia International Tattoo - long regarded as the most patriotic of the world's great Tattoos - is more than a performance, it is an experience. Robert W. Cross, the Virginia Arts Festival's Perry Artistic Director, hails the annual live Tattoo performance as "one of the signature events of the Festival-a magnet for fans from across the country and around the world, and a proud moment for the Festival every year." Now you can experience the Tattoo's unique sense of wonder and reverence from your own home--the perfect opportunity to experience the spectacle that has inspired us, entertained us, and given voice to our collective support for the military. The program will also be made available to PBS stations for broadcast around the country in early 2018.

J. Scott Jackson, the Producer and Director of Virginia International Tattoo, says of the broadcast "Imagine if Hollywood decided to create an old-fashioned epic motion picture with a patriotic theme: A huge cast, stunning costumes, intricate choreography, a dramatic musical soundtrack, moments of sheer spectacle, stirring pride and patriotism, something to make you laugh, something to make you cry, all flying by way too fast. That's the Virginia International Tattoo."

Originally created in 1997, the Virginia International Tattoo thrills audiences each spring with an all-new show. What never changes is an astounding display of international goodwill, inspirational music, majestic massed pipes and drums, show-stopping drill team maneuvers, and a breathtaking finale that fills Norfolk's Scope Arena with thrilling spectacle. The 2018 Tattoo will welcome performers from eight countries and will feature a moving tribute to Medal of Honor recipients; tickets are on sale now at vafest.org/Tattoo.
