Barter Players' BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA Begins Tonight

The Barter Players, Barter Theatre's acting company dedicated to young audiences, are pleased to present a beautiful, imaginative new musical for children. "Bridge to Terabithia," based on the Newbery Medal winningwinning story, will run May 27-June 2 at Barter Stage II.

Many have read the book, but original music helps bring the imaginary world of Terabithia to life.

"It is rare that the Players do full musicals. It's also rare that we get to do a show that has such deep things to say about what it means to grow up. I love this book, and the musical is really going to knock people's socks off," said Artistic Director of The Barter Players and director of the show Katy Brown.

The story itself celebrates the power and joy of the imagination. Remember when your childhood imagination was all you needed to entertain yourself for hours? This particular show is a perfect fit for The Barter Players, who have gained a reputation for presenting theatre for young people that engages and delights the imagination.

Jesse, a boy from the countryside of Virginia, is shy, yet artistic. He enjoys drawing but his family thinks it is not worth his time. Leslie, an outgoing girl from the city, moves next door. Jesse and Leslie become friends, and together, they create Terabithia, a magical country where there are supernatural creatures such as fairies and nymphs, and Jesse and Leslie are the king and queen.

When tragedy strikes, the strength gained in Terabithia takes Jesse forward and allows him to share the magic of his dreams.

The strong cast of actors is joined by a special guest star: Daisy the dog. This is the first time The Barter Players have featured a dog in one of their productions.

This play is recommended for third grade and up.

"Bridge to Terabithia" is sponsored by BVU and The Barter Players' 2014 season is sponsored by Alpha Natural Resources, Blue Ridge PBS and abc 19.. For more information call 276.628.3991 or go to
