THE LION IN WINTER - Whittier Community Theatre

All parts are open. Set in Chinon, France, 1183. English and French accents needed.
Be familiar with the play, bring photo/resume and be prepared to cold-read from the script.

Henry II: 50-55, the King of England. Husband of Eleanor and father of Richard, Geoffrey and John. Though aging, he still has remarkable vigor and wit, as well as physical prowess.

Eleanor of Aquitaine: 55-65, wife of Henry II and mother of Richard, Geoffrey and John. A still beautiful woman of great temperament, authority and presence.

Richard, the Lion Heart: 25-30, eldest surviving son of Henry and Eleanor. Handsome, graceful and impressive, he has been a famous soldier since his teens.

Geoffrey: 25-30, middle son of Henry and Eleanor. Attractive, charming, the “brains” of the family, a man of energy and action.

John: 18-21, to play 16, youngest son of Henry and Eleanor. Sulky and sullen, an immature spoiled brat.

Alais Capet: 20s, half-sister of Philip. Raised as a child by Eleanor, she is beautiful and in love with Henry. Her intellect and power are underestimated.

Philip II: 18-25, the King of France. Impressive and handsome, without being pretty. He is young, but is already a strong monarch, but not yet a match for Henry.
