THE LIFESPAN OF A FACT - Elmwood Playhouse

Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack, NY will be holding auditions for its upcoming production of The Lifespan Of A Fact, written by Jeremy Kareken, David Murrell, and Gordon Farrell and directed by Claudia Stefany. The Lifespan Of A Fact is based on a true story that begs the question, “Why let the facts get in the way of a good story?”

AUDITIONS: Tuesday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m.

CALLBACKS: Thursday, September 22 by invitation only at 7:00 p.m.

PERFORMANCES: Friday, January 13 thru Saturday, February 4 (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays with possible Wednesday and Thursdays)

SHOW DESCRIPTION:

A fact-checker for a prominent magazine is tasked with annotating an essay about the suicide of a teenage boy in Las Vegas. What starts as a quick weekend project with a Monday deadline morphs into a battle between between facts and fiction and what constitutes truth vs. art in journalism.

CAST REQUIREMENTS: (2 Male presenting, 1 Female presenting)

EMILY PENROSE (Female presenting, 40+) A career editor for an upscale, journalistic magazine. A master of multi-tasking and efficiency. She is very good at her job and believes strongly in the power of the stories her publication tells. She is also aware of the weight of responsibility she carries.

JIM FINGAL (Male presenting, mid-20s) A Harvard graduate and intern at the magazine, Jim is eager to prove himself in his new job and is absolutely dedicated to getting it all correct. He’s a little anxious, a lot tenacious, and willing to fight for what he believes is right.

JOHN D’AGATA (Male presenting, 30-50’s) A renowned author and essayist. Talented and well-educated, with a strong belief in what he sees as truth through art. He can also be abrasive, sarcastic, and arrogant.

Actors of all ethnicities and races are encouraged to attend.

Please note: This play contains strong adult language and discusses suicide, which some may find triggering.

Everyone auditioning must be fully vaccinated.

Sides from the script will be made available at the audition. All roles available. Newcomers are especially welcomed. Crew and other volunteers are also needed for the event.
