Auditions for Night and Day—Love Lost and Found Through the Eyes of Cole Porter

Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack, NY will be holding auditions for its upcoming production of Night and Day—Love Lost and Found Through the Eyes of Cole Porter”, music and lyrics by Cole Porter, conceived and written by Robert Cacciopo and Artie D’Alessio with musical arrangements by Victoria Casella, and directed by Alan Demovsky. Night and Day—Love Lost and Found Through the Eyes of Cole Porter is a musical telling of the story of two couples and a butler at a summer house in the 1930s solely through the songs of Cole Porter.

AUDITIONS: Sunday June 26, 2022 at 1:00 pm and Monday June 27, 2022 at 7:00 pm

CALLBACKS: Tuesday June 28, 2022 at 7:00 pm (by invitation only)

PERFORMANCES: September 16, 2022 thru October 8, 2022 (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays with possible Wednesday and Thursdays)

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
A blend of a madcap romp resembling the high camp plays and movies of the 1930s, dripping with sophistication but not to be taken seriously, and a touching story of relationship, loss, and reconciliation.

CAST REQUIREMENTS: (3 Males, 2 Females)

DONALD (MALE, ANY RACE/ETHNICITY, 20-50) – Host and owner of the summer house—wealthy, sophisticated, and handsome. Vocal Range: Baritone or Bari-Tenor

LINDA (FEMALE, ANY RACE/ETHNICITY, 20-50) – Donald’s wife, elegant and refined, beautiful. Vocal Range: Soprano/Mix

CHARLES (MALE, ANY RACE/ETHNICITY, 20-50) – Friend of Donald and Linda, also wealthy, a playboy. Vocal Range: Tenor

TILLY (FEMALE, ANY RACE/ETHNICITY, 20-50) – Charles’ wife, Broadway Starlet, sexy. Vocal Range: Mezzo/Mix

BUTLER O'REILLY (MALE, ANY RACE/ETHNICITY, ANY AGE) – A formal gentleman, refined and soft-spoken. Strong comic timing and delivery. Vocal Range: Baritone

AUDITION DETAIL: Please prepare an excerpt of a song (16-32 bars) from the American Songbook (i.e., Porter, Gershwin, Kern, Berlin, etc.) that best represents your voice and bring sheet music for the accompanist in the proper key. NO a cappella or recorded music auditions please. Those auditioning should also dress comfortably and be prepared to learn a brief dance routine.

All roles available. Casting is open to all. Newcomers are encouraged to join us. Crew and other volunteers are also needed for the event.

Every auditioner must be fully vaccinated, and proof of vaccination and ID must be presented at auditions. During rehearsals, fully vaccinated performers may remove masks while rehearsing in the mainstage or studios upon agreement of the cast and production staff, but masks must be worn throughout all other areas of the building.
