AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT – Escape to Margaritaville

The Milburn Stone Theatre at Cecil College, along with Director/Choreographer Carl Randolph, Music Director Trey Pope, Stage Manager Malia Williamson and MST Artistic Director Andrew John Mitchell are excited to announce auditions for the August 2024 production of Escape to Margartiaville

Audition Dates:

There will be two auditions for Escape to Margartiaville, Monday, April 29th and Thursday, May 2nd. Auditions will take place between 6 - 9:30pm. Those auditioning can sign-up for a slot at after completing the form or can arrive and sign-up during the first hour of auditions. Those auditioning will be asked to stay after their audition times to be taught a dance routine, please come prepared to move.

Callbacks for Escape to Margaritaville will be held on Monday, May 6th from 6pm to 10pm, Callback notifications will be sent out by Friday, May 3rd at 5pm. The first section of the callback process will be a dance call from 6 – 7pm, followed by music and readings.

Audition Preparation:

Please prepare a song (approx. 32 bars of music or less) in the style of the show. To listen to the original cast recording please click this link: (

An accompanist will be provided so please bring sheet music for the accompanist to play. Performing with an accompanist is strongly preferred, but you may provide tracks if you do not have sheet music.

Please note: Amplification will not be provided and playing backing tracks off a cell phone (without proper additional amplification) is strongly discouraged.?


Rehearsal for Escape To Margaritaville will begin in mid May. Rehearsals will be based on both performer and production staff availability, so please submit all known conflicts at the time of auditions. The Milburn Stone Theatre traditionally rehearses between 2 to 4 times a week. Tech week for Escape To Margaritaville will be held Sunday, August 4th through Thursday, August 8th, no conflicts will be accepted for these tech dates.

Please note: Cecil College will be closed from 5pm on May 24th through 8am on May 28th in observance of Memorial Day Weekend, June 19th in observance of Juneteenth and June 29th through July 7th for an extended Fourth of July week closure, one or more rehearsal might be scheduled this week off campus but not on the actual holiday.

Performances for Escape to Margaritaville will begin on Friday, August 9th with performances on August 10th, 11th, 16th, 17th & 18th. Friday and Saturday night performances take place at 8pm and Sunday matinees take place at 2pm.?

There is a possibility of an added matinee on Saturday, August 10th and/or Saturday, August 17th at 2pm. Cast and crew will be notified in July if these performances will not be held.

Please note: The Milburn Stone Theatre is a community Theatre on a college campus, our productions are open to the entire community, not just Cecil College Students, Faculty and Staff. This production is non-paid/non-union


Escape To Margartiaville Casting Breakdown:

All roles are available. In addition, The Milburn Stone Theatre is committed to Cecil College’s principles of diversity, equity, and inclusivity, and encourages performers of all ethnicities, races, backgrounds, genders, and ages to audition but they will be performed as originally written.

  • Rachel: Female Presenting, any ethnicity, Mezzo-Soprano (A3-F#5/Gb5), mover, Suggested age Range: 27-33, Fully committed to her job and helping the world. Willing to put in as many hours of hard work as it takes and expects everyone else to do the same. Suspicious of fools and operators, Rachel is not easily distracted from her life plan.

  • Tammy: Female Presenting, any ethnicity, Mezzo-Soprano (B3-F5), mover, Suggested age Range: 30-39, Loyal friend to Rachel. Sees the best in people and has a zest for life that is often squelched by her fiancé, Chad. Her low self-esteem manifests itself as denial in her own life.

  • Marley: Female Presenting, African American, Soprano, Suggested age Range: 40-49, No-nonsense and assertive with an island accent. She runs the resort and keeps everyone in check, but clearly cares about her employees, her customers, and J.D., an older island denizen. Great singer.

  • Tully: Male Presenting, any ethnicity, Tenor (A#2/Bb2-C5), mover, Plays Guitar, Suggested age Range: 27-39, Smooth-talking, self-deprecating playboy. He's completely content with the life he's chosen as the singer/bartender at a tropical resort, until he meets Rachel, a vacationer who upends his heart. Guitar skills are useful.

  • Brick: Male Presenting, any ethnicity, Tenor (A2-C5), dancer (please note: this role requires Tap)Suggested age Range: 30-39, The Island bartender. Has a big heart and a good friend to Tully. Not the brightest bulb, but sensitive and thoughtful

  • J.D.: Male Presenting, any ethnicity, Baritone, plays ukulele, Suggested age Range: 60-79, A funny, endearing older man who always has a parrot on his shoulder. He's losing his vision and his hearing but won't acknowledge it. A good-natured drunkard, he's always writing his memoirs on bar napkins and, as it turns out, he's lived a full life.

  • Ensemble: Seeking 8 – 10 Ensemble members of all genders, ages and ethnicities to play such roles as Jamal, Chad, Cloud Jesus, Goon #1, Goon #2, Islanders, Vacationers and Wedding Guests. Please note: several ensemble members have lines/solo vocal lines in songs, these parts will be selected after the casting process.
