ANTIGONE COMMUNITY TOUR (an NC Stage Community Engagement Program)

VIDEO AUDITION SUBMISSION DEADLINE: April 30, 2023

SEEKING:

Video auditions from non-union actors of all races, genders, and ethnicities for the 2023 Community Tour production of Antigone by Sophocles.

ABOUT THE NC STAGE COMMUNITY TOUR:

The NC Stage Community Tour is dedicated to bringing dynamic professional performances to audiences who traditionally experience barriers to attending live theatre. Venues have included homeless shelters, correctional facilities, community centers, senior centers, and schools in Western North Carolina.

PREPARATION:

Actors are asked to prepare one classical monologue (length between 60 – 90 seconds) and an optional song of their choice. The song should be in the folk, pop, indie style. (Please sing a cappella or accompany yourself.) Also looking for actors who can play an instrument. Not all roles will require singing or instrumentation.

AUDITION SUBMISSION:

Please submit a headshot, resume, and private or password protected links of audition videos via the online audition form. Please state your name and the pieces being performed at the beginning of the submission.

CALLBACKS:

Callbacks will be held in person in Asheville on May 7 at 2pm and May 8 at 7pm. Non local actors can participate in callbacks via zoom.

COMPENSATION:

This is a professional, non-union opportunity and performers will be compensated $325/wk for rehearsal and $100 per community performance. Housing is provided for out of town ensemble members.

PRODUCTION SCHEDULE (subject to adjustment):

Rehearsals:

3 – 4 weeks scheduled between July 1 – July 30

Community performances:

10 – 16 performances scheduled between August 1 – September 24

NC Stage performances:

8-10 performances over two weeks in October or November, exact dates TBD.

Character Breakdown

ANTIGONE by Sophocles

Director: Patrice Foster

Antigone – Kreon’s niece, daughter of Oedipus.

Ismene – Antigone’s sister.

Chorus 1 – plays many parts and acts as the audience’s guide.

Kreon – Antigone’s uncle and the new King of Thebes.

Hamon – Kreon’s son and Antigone’s fiance. Doubles as Guard and guide for Tiresias.

Tiresias – Prophet of Apollo. Also doubles as Chorus 2.
