Light Opera of New Jersey continues its 27th Season of operetta and musical theatre with a production of 2014 Tony award-winning A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, based on the 1907 novel Israel Rank: The Autobiography of a Criminal by Roy Horniman.
Joseph Hayward directs the production with
Griffin Strout as the musical director,
Matthew Lynady as choreographer, and
Jason Tramm as Executive Producer.
After dealing with the loss of his mother, the protagonist son Monty Navarro, and member of the D’Ysquith family, discovers he is ninth in line to become the Earl of Highhurst and inherit a massive fortune. Monty sets out on a quest to learn of his long-lost aristocratic background.
The show is full of hilarious and entertaining musical numbers, many of which detail Monty’s undertakings to become the heir to a great fortune.
Most notably, the show’s entertainment value stems from the fact that the lead actor portrays every single member of the D’Ysquith family, and all the murder victims both male and female, young and old. Not only does this showcase the amazing versatility of the performer, but it also proves to be a very compelling and funny piece of musical theatre.
Auditions are open to PRE-REGISTERED actors only. Registration must be done online, in advance of audition dates. Be prepared to upload your headshot and resume.
Performances will be on July 15, 16, 22, and 23, 2023 at the South Orange Performing Arts Center, One SOPAC Way, South Orange, NJ.
