The Court Theatre has released a supportive statement about Dame Maggie Smith winning the Emmy for the "Best Supporting Actress in a Mini-series" in LA.

The statement reads: "The internationally acclaimed actress, who plays the Countess of Grantham in Downton Abbey, was named last week as the Patron of the Christchurch theatre's fundraising campaign and Court Chief Executive, Philip Aldridge, is delighted her fine work has once again been recognised.

"Miss Smith is a hugely talented and widely respected actress and we are all so pleased that she has won this award today," he says.

Maggie Smith, as patron of the fundraising campaign at The Court Theatre, has donated an autographed Downton Abbey script and poster, which the theatre will be auctioning to raise funds.

Downton Abbey received the Emmy for "Outstanding Mini-Series" in today's awards."
