Theatre at St. Claude to Host Season Announcement Party, 1/25

By:

After a 2015 that included three original works, a classic radio drama, a hit contemporary comedy, a local comic festival and The Amazing Acrocats, The Theatre at St. Claude will proudly announce its 2016 offerings at a king cake party on Monday, January 25th at 7 PM.

Featuring musical stylings from Alexandra Scott and Jack Craft along with a comic monologue from Jim Fitzmorris, the evening will culminate with a season announcement, which will include the return of Fitzmorris' comic hit "Be A New Orleanian: Presented by Dirty Coast," and a party offering a wide variety of king cakes from local bakeries.

Proprietors Ryan and Jim Fitzmorris are thrilled to build upon the progress in the theatre since assuming control last May. After setting up operations, the brothers have insulated the ceiling, made air conditioner repairs, restored backstage, and installed new seats for the comfort of their patrons.

And the shows have left an impression.

They have committed the theatre to new work with productions such as the premiere of Kate Bailey's "Strays," challenged audiences with powerful emotional pieces like Rebecca Mwase's "Looking at A Broad," and demonstrated a love of fledgling playwrights as the host of Southern Rep's popular 6X6 and 3X3 series.

Laughter has filled their house with the Sedaris siblings' comedy "The Book of Liz," "Be A New Orleanian," the long running "Debauchery," and the "Hell Yes Fest."

They have managed to slip the strange and wondrous onto their stage as well with a burlesque version of "Hocus Pocus," Orson Welles' "Dracula," the ever-popular Acrocats, and The NOLA Project's riotous reading of the movie "Clue."

And along the way, they have thrown open their doors to a theatre community searching for space and opportunity.

But 2016 promises to be even better. Won't you join us?
