THE RUB is coming to New Orleans. After a sell-out NYC run, Tremor Theatre Collective combines groundbreaking visual, topical theatre with Shakespeare’s classic text. Having grown out of a response to the Arab Spring and experiences of Occupy Wall St, and inspired by the work of Young Jean Lee, THE RUB is an investigation of the anxiety, passion, self-doubt and desire that come with being heirs to a rotting state. Like Hamlet, we are inheriting a mess made by an earlier generation, and we have a story to tell.

Hamlet's in the thick of it and so are we. Queen Gertrude echoes speeches by Gaddaffi, and adopts the mantle of the Queen of Pop in a crumbling world. In this original work, Tremor Theatre collect references from popular culture, literature, music, and personal accounts that represent first hand experiences of earth shattering disillusionment, and weave these sources into Shakespeare's edited text. In THE RUB, Shakespeare’s classic tragedy is transformed into an absurd dreamscape with uncanny reminders of the present.

The cast features Jordan Barbour, Marguerite Van Cook, Benjamin Otto, Richard Busser, Dean Linnard and William Lugo. THE RUB is produced by Helena Martel-Seward and Patrick Collier with Lighting Design by Serena Wong, Sound Design by Steven Dale, Assistant Director Ellie Lotan, Set Design by Rebecca Lord-Surratt and Costume Design by Haley Wollens.

Tremor Theatre Collective was founded by Lecoq and Barnard College alumna Nessa Norich. The company is dedicated to making physical and visual theater that reacts to the current state of affairs, providing a space for ourselves and our audiences to remain conscientious and vulnerable in hardening times.

Following an acclaimed run at The Magic Future Box in New York City, THE RUB will play at The Den of Muses, a cavernous and unique warehouse space, as part of The New Orleans Fringe Festival - an extraordinary week of theatre, art, and spectacle. 50 companies from around the country will present over 150 shows in venues across the city.
