Loyola Theatre Presents New Take on Greek Comedy with WEALTH, Now thru 2/2

By:

The Department of Theatre Arts and Dance at Loyola University New Orleans presents an exploration of economics and ideology with a fresh new version of Aristophanes' final comedy "Wealth." Adapted and translated by Loyola language and culture professor Karen Rosenbacker, Ph.D., the premiere of this dark satire will run in the Lower Depths Theater in the Communications/Music Complex tonight, Jan. 30 - Feb. 2 at 8 p.m.

Directed by theatre professor Artemis Preeshl, "Wealth" tells the story of the virtuous, yet poverty-stricken Chremylos as he befriends the blind beggar, Plutus, who contrary to expectations, turns out to be the god of wealth. Chremylos encourages Plutus to distribute riches to the deserving and virtuous. Set in contemporary post-war Athens, the "have nots" rise up to confront the "haves."

Tickets are $12 for general admission and $8 for Loyola faculty, staff, students and seniors. For tickets and information, visit montage.loyno.edu or call 504-865-2074. Free parking is available in the West Road Garage located on West Road and accessible from St. Charles Avenue.
