Gregory Bright and Lara Naughton Set for New Orleans Fringe PILLOW TALK, 5/15
Since 2005, New Orleans, has seen a new birth of social action-centered performance. This month's Pillow Talk will explore the methods by which artists and citizens come together to use theater as social tool: to process, to expose and to call to action.
May's Pillow Talk guests are experts on this issue. Never Fight a Shark in Water is based entirely on the words and recollections of Bright, who served 27 ½ years wrongfully imprisoned for murder. For the 2011 New Orleans Fringe Festival, Gregory Bright performed the piece himself at the NOCCA Institute to standing-room-only houses. The program is set for tomorrow, May 15.
Kathy Randels, the evening's facilitator, is the founder of ArtSpot Productions. ArtSpot utilizes the theater a social platform through the original, devised productions of the ensemble and through the work of LCIW Drama Club, comprised of inmates at The Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women in St. Gabriel, Louisiana.
Fringe Pillow Talk and a Shot is a monthly date for folks to get together, talk theater and simmer up new ideas. Each evening starts with a special topic presented by guest artists and local facilitators. As the evening warms up in the laid-back environment of the Lost Love Lounge, everyone is invited to join in.
