Alumnus Logan Skelton Performs Piano Recital on Campus At Loyola 10/22

By:

Loyola University New Orleans alumnus Logan Skelton, D.M.A., '83, will perform a solo piano recital on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Roussel Performance Hall, located in the Communications/Music Complex, on the corner of St. Charles Avenue and Calhoun Street.

A Hungarian celebration of Franz Liszt and Béla Bartók, the concert will feature two monuments of the repertoire: Liszt's massive "Sonata in B minor" and Bartók's own solo piano transcription of his "Concerto for Orchestra."

"While Liszt's ‘Sonata in B minor' is a staple in the piano repertoire, the solo piano version of Bartók's ‘Concerto for Orchestra' is virtually never performed," Skelton said. "I like performing these two massive works together as they represent two great pillars of Hungarian music."

"It's a great pleasure to return to perform at Loyola, my alma mater," Skelton said. "It is no exaggeration to say that the education I received at Loyola was life-changing. The classes I took, the remarkable professors and fellow students I came to know, and the many experiences I had all combined to open up the world to me."

Skelton, professor of piano and director of doctoral studies in piano performance at the University of Michigan, is a much sought after pianist, teacher and composer. His work has received international critical acclaim, and he has been featured on many public radio and television stations including National Public Radio's "All Things Considered," "Audiophile Audition" and "Performance Today." Skelton has recorded numerous albums and is a frequent guest at music festivals around the world.

Skelton's upcoming projects include the release of three CDs of his own compositions for Blue Griffin Records, as well as two discs devoted to the solo piano music of Franz Liszt and Béla Bartók.
Admission to the event is free. Free parking is available in the West Road garage located on West Road and accessible from St. Charles Avenue.
