Young Immigrant Hamilton Tour to Stop at Kean's Liberty Hall for CelebrateHAMILTON 2017

Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University is once again part of the annual CelebrateHAMILTON program, organized by the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society to celebrate the life and legacy of the Founding Father and first U.S. Secretary of the Treasury.

Liberty Hall Museum will be part of the Young Immigrant Hamilton Tour on Thursday, July 6 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The tour explores historic sites associated with Hamilton's time in the Elizabethtown, New Jersey area as a young preparatory school student.

Liberty Hall Museum, the home of the first-elected governor of New Jersey, William Livingston, and his family, is the second stop on the tour. As follow-up to last year's sold-out New Hamilton Discoveries talk at Liberty Hall, the CelebrateHAMILTON event will include a new presentation, with the latest discoveries about Alexander Hamilton made in the past year being shared for the first time publicly.

Speakers include Michael E. Newton, Hamilton national scholar, and Aimee Fernandez-Puente, Elizabeth local history and special collections manager at the Elizabeth Public Library. Newton will share with the public for the first time his recent discovery of the earliest known records of Hamilton. The author of Alexander Hamilton: The Formative Years will discuss the discovery of these documents and their implications to Hamilton's biography. Enlarged copies of the documents will be on display for the public to see for the first time.

Fernandez-Puente will reveal recent discoveries of Alexander Hamilton documents found in the Elizabeth Public Library's vault and will discuss the documents' history and the individuals referenced in them. An original document from the collection will be on display for the first time since its discovery.

Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University chronicles more than 240 years of American history. The museum also houses extensive collections of furniture, ceramics, textiles, toys and tools owned by seven generations of the Livingston and Kean families. The Firehouse Museum, built in 2004, houses three antique fire engines, including a rare 1911 American LaFrance Metropolitan Steam Engine.
