Thurnauer School of Music Students Selected for Guitar Master Class

The JCC Thurnauer School of Music, named a Major Arts Institution by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, is pleased to announce the students selected to perform in the inaugural Beverly and Lewis Lauring Guitar Master Class, featuring internationally-acclaimed artist Benjamin Verdery, Tuesday, May 17 from 4 to 7 p.m.

The class, open to anyone who would like to attend, will take place in the school's Eric Brown Theater, located within the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades (411 East Clinton Avenue). The suggested donation to attend the class is $10, payable at the door.

Master class participants will include Ansel Bobrow (Stoney Point, N.Y.); Daniel Choe, Ariel Davis, Benjamin Lauring and Markus Norell (Tenafly); Nick Giordano (Oakland, N.J.); and Benjamin Mays (Paterson, N.J.). Allen Park (Englewood Cliffs, N.J.) and Shiloh Gonsky (Brooklyn, N.Y.) were selected for Honorable Mention.

The master class is supported, in part, by the Beverly and Lewis Lauring Guitar Master Class Fund, established by music school parents Dr. Brett Lauring and Heidi Chen Lauring in honor of Dr. Lauring's late parents.

About Beverly and Lewis Lauring and the Master Class

Established by Dr. Brett Lauring and Heidi Chen Lauring, the Beverly and Lewis Lauring Guitar Master Class honors the memory of Dr. Lauring's parents, both ardent classical music lovers. The elder Dr. Lauring was a devoted amateur classical guitarist and builder of guitars and violins, and the elder Mrs. Lauring the founder of the Tampa Bay Youth Orchestra in the 1980s. Mrs. Lauring was also a long-time supporter of the Florida Orchestra and former chair of its board of trustees.

About the JCC Thurnauer School of Music

The JCC Thurnauer School of Music, New Jersey's leading community music school, has been designated a Major Arts Institution by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
