Thurnauer School of Music Hosts 12th Annual Founder's Day Concert 6/16

By: May. 25, 2011

The JCC Thurnauer School of Music, named a Major Arts Organization by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, is pleased to announce its 12th annual Sandra O. Gold Founder's Day Concert. The performance will take place Thursday, June 16 at 7 p.m. in Taub Auditorium, part of the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades (411 East Clinton Avenue).

Performers will include the music school's violin groups (Carey White, director); guitar groups (Seth Himmelhoch, director); a piano duet and trio (Lolita Mayadas, department head); a jazz combo (Vinnie Sperrazza, director); and the Young People's Chorus at Thurnauer (Emma Brondolo, director). Repertoire will be announced at a later date. Performers are subject to change.

Participants will include students in the Music Discovery Partnership, a collaboration between the Thurnauer School of Music and the Englewood Public School District now in its 13th year.

The concert is supported, in part, by the Sandra O. Gold Music School Founder's Fund, established by Russ and Angelica Berrie.

"We want to share the magical experience of beautiful music with our community," said music school founding director Dorothy Kaplan Roffman. "It is especially inspiring to children to see other children perform and witness the joy and sense of accomplishment they have in creating music. We are so grateful to the Berrie family and to Sandra Gold for initiating this free annual concert and for having the idea of a top community music school at the JCC, which is open to everyone, regardless of age or experience."

Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted. For more information, please call 201.408.1465; e-mail thurnauer@jccotp.org; or visit www.jccotp.org/thurnauer. Reservations are recommended.
