"Pop-Up" theater -- entertainment in unexpected places - is returning to Unity Bank in Union's downtown business district, presented by The Theater Project, an award-winning professional company based in Maplewood. The comedy ELECTION DAY by Josh Tobiessen will be presented as a script-in-hand performanceSaturday, November 5 at 8 PM, and Sunday, November 6 at 2 PM, at Unity Bank's 952 Stuyvesant Avenue branch, Union. Tickets are $15.

ELECTION DAY is about small town mayoral election race with no holds barred. "The dirty tricks and acrimony in this play may pale in comparison to the realities of the presidential contest," says Theater Project director Mark Spina, "but laughter is non-partisan - hopefully, we can take a break from our own sides for just one evening, and enjoy being entertained." The cast includes Kelley McAndrews, Dennis DaPrile, Marissa Peragine, Mike Newman, and David Federman.

But you gotta eat, right? On Saturday, November 5, ELECTION DAY patrons can meet early (6 PM) for a prix fix meal at Gusta Rosso Trattoria, just around the corner from the play venue. The cost of the meal and theater ticket is $35. Details and tickets available at TheTheaterProject.org.

One of the reasons for bringing Pop-Up Theater to Union's downtown is to create foot traffic for local business. The Theater Project is alternating partnerships with area eateries, setting up a guide to neighborhood restaurants on its website, to encourage play-goers to round out their theater experience with a meal or snack. Within walking distance of the performance, patrons can choose from vegetarian, Tapas, Italian, Sushi, Thai, Chinese, African, Portuguese, Brazilian, and Philippine menus, as well as pub grub and pizza. Lighter fare -- coffee, tea, dessert -- is also available at neighborhood bakeries, coffee shops, and cafes.

ELECTION DAY is part of a series of pop-up Theater Project performances supported by the Downtown Improvement District, a Union County HEART grant, and the hospitality of Unity Bank. In December, watch for IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE: THE RADIO PLAY, December 3 and 4.

Tickets and further information are available at TheTheaterProject.org.
