Best Coast brings the new California sound to White Eagle Hall in Jersey City on October 11th.

Formed in 2009, Best Coast is the California pop pock duo of Bethany Cosentino, songwriter, guitarist and singer, and Bobb Bruno guitarist and multi-instrumentalist. Cosentino, a former child actress, began writing music as a teenager and was formerly a member of the experimentalist drone ensemble, Pocahaunted - who opened for Sonic Youth - but after realizing she needed a new musical outlet to perform the "crazy love songs I was writing," she returned to California and began recording lo-fi demos with Bruno, whom she met in the Los Angeles music scene.

The distinctive sound of the newly formed Best Coast soon caught the attention of fans and critics. According to the Guardian: "Best Coast sounds like a lo-fi 60s garage rock and surfing band fronted by a girl group singer, but it is in fact essentially a vehicle for Bethany Cosentino, a 22-year-old from LA who is, as far as we can tell, the sole female auteur of the whole new sun-kissed surf-pop scene."

While their sound can be described as bright and poppy, a dark realism is never far away. About California Nights, her duo's latest album, Cosentino says: "In LA, there's a real darkness that you don't see unless you know where to look. That's a theme we very consciously decided to explore and play. We related to the idea that things may look or sound fun and upbeat, but they may not actually always be that way."

Opening for Best Coast is East Coast-based Field Mouse, whose three official releases have received critical acclaim. Spin Magazine: "Their third studio LP, Episodic, is underpinned more by rock than indie-pop, but its soft-hearted, world-weary attitude betrays the Brooklyn-and-Philadelphia quintet's identity as lovers, not fighters".

Originally constructed in 1910, the newly restored White Eagle Hall is an impressive new venue for arts and entertainment, including concerts, theater, performances and other events in the New York/New Jersey Metropolitan area. White Eagle Hall features complete food & beverage service, with two bars on the mezzanine level and one on the balcony level. The restoration enhanced the intimacy and charm of this historic venue while adding the latest in sound and lighting technology, creating a distinctive and memorable audience experience.
