Stevens Institute of Technology Music & Technology Professor to Appear at Rock Fest

To students at Stevens Institute of Technology, he is known as Professor Alomar, but to fans of rock and roll, he has very different persona.

Famed guitarist Carlos Alomar, a visiting adjunct professor in the College of Arts and Letters (CAL) Music and Technology Program and the University's first Artist in Residence, has a résumé that reads like an issue of Rolling Stone magazine.

Alomar will put those guitar chops to work when he joins more than 100 other legends of rock for the Rock Con: Weekend of 100 Stars at the Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel and Conference Center in East Rutherford July 30 through August 1.

"We are very excited to have Carlos Alomar as a member of the Stevens community as an adjunct professor and our first Artist in Residence," said Dr. Lisa Dolling, Dean of CAL at Stevens. "He is a world-class musician, whose body of work consists of some of the most significant contributions to popular music over the past 30 years. The fans at Rock Con are in for a real treat when Professor Alomar takes the stage."

During Rock Con, Alomar will be greeting fans and appearing during a special tribute session to John Lennon, performing David Bowie's classic single "Fame," which he co-wrote with both Bowie and Lennon.

Unlike other music festivals, the three-day Rock Con show provides the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for fans and collectors to meet music icons, celebrity artists and special guests - all under the same roof - in a unique, relatively intimate setting.

Known as David Bowie's favorite guitarist, co-writer and musical director from 1974 to 2001, and the person credited with discovering Luther Vandross, Alomar has worked with the biggest names in the music industry for the past 30 years, including Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Alicea Keys, Whitney Houston, and Bruce Springsteen.

In addition, Alomar is the co-founder of the National Rock Movement of Puerto Rico, produced many well-known Latin artists, and was the bandleader on "The Caroline Rhea Show" from 2002 to 2003. Alomar also lectures for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (GRAMMYS) as well as moderates panels for various music industry events.
