Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical Opens At The Wayne YMCA's Rosen Performing Arts Center
The Wayne YMCA (Wayne NJ) will present the national tour of the children's musical Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 3:00pm in the Rosen Performing Arts Center.
Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical follows 8-year-old Lily Polkadot who just moved to the "Squares Only" small town of Rockaway. As the first Polkadot in an all-Square school, Lily faces an almost impossible task of gaining acceptance from her peers. From daily bullying to segregated drinking fountains, Lily's quest seems hopeless until she meets Sky, a shy Square boy whose curiosity for her unique polkadot skin blooms into an unexpected pal-ship. Inspired by Civil Rights pioneers Ruby Bridges and The Little Rock Nine, Polkadots serves as a colorful history lesson for the world, reminding us that our differences make us awesome, not outcasts.
Polkadots' timely message about equality and compassion is presented with pep and positivity to engage and inspire young audiences. Following its 2016 premiere at the Ivoryton Playhouse in Ivoryton, CT, the musical has been performed to great acclaim on stages across the United States. With rock-and-roll and jazz-flavored songs, audience participation segments, and sets and costumes bursting with color, Polkadots promises to be a heartwarming feast for the senses. There will be a character meet and greet after the show.
Tickets are $18 in advance and $25 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online at metroymcas.org/rosenpac or by calling 973.595.0100. The Wayne YMCA is located at 1 Pike Drive Wayne NJ and is Wayne's Community and Cultural Center.
