Celebrate the work of Dr. Seuss with The Pennington Players' "Seussical the Musical," coming to Mercer County Community College's Kelsey Theatre. Dates and show times for this family show are Fridays, Sept. 24 and Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, Sept. 25 and Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sundays, Sept. 26 and Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is located on the college's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. A reception with the cast and crew follows the opening night performance on Sept. 24.

Created by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, "Seussical" features a cast of beloved characters as it affirms the power of friendship, family and community. Taking center stage is the one and only Horton the Elephant, who is on a quest to protect his tiny friend JoJo - and all the invisible Whos - as well as guard an egg abandoned by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. In the face of ridicule, danger, and even a trial, Horton remains steadfast in his mission with the help of the loyal and intrepid Gertrude McFuzz, who recognizes "his kind and his powerful heart."

Leading a 39-member cast are: Kyrus Westcott, of Hamilton, as The Cat in the Hat; Steven Anzuini, of Hightstown, as Horton the Elephant; Simon Hamilton, of Princeton, as JoJo; Hilary Goldman, of Princeton, as Mayzie LaBird; and Kim Cupo, of Fairless Hills, PA, as Gertrude McFuzz. Also featured are Frank Ferrara, of West Windsor, as Mr. Mayor; Lisa Reifschnieder, of Hopewell Township, as Mrs. Mayor; Aimee Robidoux, of Levittown, PA, as Sour Kangaroo; William Mercado as General Gengis Kahn Schmidt; Steve Browne as Yertle the Turtle; and Shannon Ferrara, of West Windsor, Ashley Hencken, and Alison McMullen as the Bird Girls. Also appearing are Dominic Sanelli and Matt Triplett as Wickershams; Elizabeth Ferrara as Cindy Lou Who; Rob Gougher as the Grinch; Anna Kralik as Young Kangaroo, and Anna Chicco and Kavya Pochiraju as Thing 1 and Thing 2. The talented ensemble includes John Maurer, Stacy Maurer, Scott Karlin, Rosie Karlin, Dan Slothower, Amy Slothower, Heather Sheffold, Jack Lynch, Caroline Purdy, Jahmir Scott, Jason Wilks, Charlotte Gougher and Samantha Gougher. Featured dancers include Heather Santos, Molly Karlin, Mollie Rubenstein, Mari Skoultchi, Robin Slothower and Alexa Lupinacci.

The production team includes director/musical director Laurie Gougher, choreographer Kristina Tuxhorn, co-producers Jenn Gregg and Judi Parrish (who also serves as technical director), and stage manager Beverly Kuo. Costumes are by Kathy Slothower and properties are by Elizabeth Blazejewski.

The Pennington Players are excited that the production includes so many families, both on stage and back stage: the Ferraras of West Windsor (Frank, Shannon and Elizabeth); the Slothowers of Plainsboro (Kathy, Dan, Amy and Robin); the Maurers, of Ewing Township (John and Stacy); the Goughers of Newtown, PA (Laurie, Rob, Samantha and Charlotte); and the Karlins of Princeton Junction (Scott, Rosie and Molly).

Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for seniors, and $12 for students and children. To order tickets online, visit www.kelseytheatre.net or call the Kelsey Theatre Box Office at (609) 570-3333. Theatre is wheelchair accessible; free parking is available next to the theater.
