The brilliantly entertaining filmmaker, writer and shock auteur supremo, John Waters is coming to the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) on Saturday, February 2nd for one night only to perform his deviously funny one man show This Filthy World, in his first ever national tour.

John Waters is a man of many monikers: The Prince of Puke, The Duke of Dirt, The Sultan of Sleaze. Anyway you put it, John Waters is famed the world over for his trash epics including "Pink Flamingos", "Female Trouble", "Desperate Living", "Polyester", "Serial Mom", "Pecker", "Cecil B. Demented", and "A Dirty Shame". Two of his more surprisingly commercial films have been adapted for the stage. "Hairspray", winner of eight Tony Awards and "Cry Baby - The Musical" nominated for four Tony Awards. In the summer of 2007, "Hairspray" reinvented itself cinematically as a big-budget Hollywood movie starring John Travolta that became a smash hit worldwide.

Described as a vaudeville act, This Filthy World celebrates the film career and obsessive tastes of the man William Burroughs once called "The Pope of Trash". Focusing on Waters' early artistic influences, his fascination with true crime, exploitation films, fashion lunacy, and the extremes of the contemporary art world, this joyously devious monologue elevates all that is trashy in life into a call to arms to filth followers everywhere.

This Filthy World will also draw on material from Waters' most recent book, Role Models.

SAT 2/2 @ 8:00PM - John Waters: This Filthy World at South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC), 1 SOPAC Way, South Orange, NJ, 07079. Tickets: $35-$75*. *Premium ticket includes invitation to private post-performance reception with John Waters. To purchase, visit SOPACnow.org or call 973.313.ARTS.
