Enjoy An Acoustic Evening with Richard Thompson at SOPAC

By:

Richard Thompson, one of the world's most critically acclaimed and prolific songwriters, makes a return appearance at the South Orange Performing Arts Center on October 8 at 8:00 p.m. Named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of All Time, Thompson has received numerous accolades, including a Lifetime Achievement Award, and has earned the adulation of fans throughout the world for the wit and richness of his extraordinary writing.

A founding member of the seminal British Folk-Rock group Fairport Convention, he remained with the band for five studio albums, and one live album, before embarking on a solo career in 1971. He, and wife Linda Thompson, began to record and perform together throughout the '70s in a musical and personal partnership that brought them attention and acclaim. Internationally renowned, Thompson has received an Order of the British Empire personally bestowed upon him by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace and has been nominated at the Americanas for both "Artist of the Year" and "Song of the Year."

Richard Thompson's latest album, Still was produced by Wilco's Jeff Tweedy and reached #6 in the UK charts. Still is the sixteenth solo studio album by the British singer-songwriter. Pitchfork writes that Still "feels extremely present and immediate," noting it as "a solid, stark record." The Independent cites Still as "a brilliant, nigh-on faultless work from an acknowledged master," stating that "his songwriting, too, is as good here as it's ever been."

Richard Thompson's genre-defying mastery of both acoustic and electric guitar along with dizzying energy and onstage wit continue to earn him massive new fans and a place as one of the most distinctive virtuosos in Folk Rock history.

SOPAC is honored to host Richard Thompson on his nation-wide tour. He will perform at SOPAC October 8 at 8:00 p.m.Tickets are $38-60 and can be purchased online at SOPACnow.org, or by calling the box office at (973) 313-2787.
