East Lynne Theater Company Presents A TRIBUTE TO TWAIN 10/11

"I am a border-ruffian from the State of Missouri. I am a Connecticut Yankee by adoption. In me, you have Missouri morals and Connecticut culture. This is the combination which makes the perfect man." Mark Twain said this tongue-in-cheek, but it appears to have been the formula for a complicated life that included an impressive body of literature.

Twain came into this world on November 30, 1835, when Haley's Comet streaked across the sky, and died on April 21, 1910, when the comet again passed near Earth. Thus, 2010 marks the 100th anniversary of Twain's death and the 175th anniversary of his birth - and many are celebrating these events nationwide, including the Cape' May's own award-winning East Lynne Theater Company.

On Monday, October 11, ELTC presents A TRIBUTE TO TWAIN. From 6:30-8:00, it's TWAIN TALES - a staged reading of several of his comic stories including THE CELEBRATED JUMPING FROGS OF CALEVERAS COUNTY (the tale that propelled Twain to fame),LITERATURE IN TEH DRY DIGGINGS, A COMPLAINT ABOUT CORRESPONDENCE, IS HE LIVING OR IS HE DEAD and EVE'S DIARY, along with famous quotes, and an after-show Q&A. The performers are Michael Kirby, Drew Seltzer, and Megan McDermott, professional actors who are currently in ELTC's lush production of BERKELEY SQUARE, under the direction of Gayle Stahlhuth.

From 8:30-10:30, is 'Mark Twain in Film' with the showing of the Errol Flynn classic THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER co-sponsored with The Cape May Film Festival.

Admission is only $10 per event or $15 if attending both. The location is The First Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes St., Cape May, where ELTC is in residence.
