Downtown Performing Arts Center Presents A CHORUS LINE For One Weekend

Celebrate International Dance Day with one of musical theater's signature dance productions when the Downtown Performing Arts Center and Curtain Up Productions present "A Chorus Line". Set for four performances, "A Chorus Line" will be performed at South Hunterdon Regional High School, 301 Mt. Airy-Harbourton Rd., Lambertville, N.J. on Friday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 29 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The show contains adult content.

Choreographer Michael Bennett conceived of "A Chorus Line" as a tribute to a dancer's life. Bennett recorded over 40 hours of conversations with Broadway actors to compile the stories that make up the musical. Bennett worked with playwright/novelist James Kirkwood and former dancer Nicholas Dante to organize and solidify the book, Academy award winner Marvin Hamlisch composed the music and Broadway newcomer Edward Kleban wrote the lyrics. Their combined work, including some great one-liners by an uncredited Neil Simon, resulted in a story that blended all elements of musical theatre seamlessly. The show would go on to win nine Tony Awards in 1976 including best musical, score, book, direction and choreography. In 1983, "A Chorus Line" would become the longest running show on Broadway, a record that would remain unbroken until 1997 when it closed after 6,137 performances.

The musical score includes such memorable numbers as "One", "I Can Do That", "At The Ballet", "The Music and the Mirror", "I Hope I Get It" and the show's signature song, "What I Did for Love".

This production of "A Chorus Line" features performers from the Downtown Performing Arts Center of Lambertville, N.J. For over 15 years, the Downtown Performing Arts Center has been providing performing arts training to children and young adults through Bucks and Hunterdon counties. In fall of 2017, the group will be moving to its new home, Music Mountain Theatre, a 250-seat performing arts center set to open in Lambertville, N.J.

"A Chorus Line" presented by the Downtown Performing Arts Center and Curtain Up Productions will be performed on Friday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 29 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at South Hunterdon Regional High School, 301 Mt.
