Beach Haven Elementary School Contributes to Re-Opening of Surflight Theatre

By:

The Elementary school children of Beach Haven School, a grade school of under 100 students, were deeply saddened in January 2015 when the sitting Board of Surflight Theatre announced they could no longer keep the theatre open and they were filing for liquidation. Afraid the theatre was going to be torn down or turned in condominiums, the young students launched a fundraising campaign to "Save Our Surflight".

In Spring of 2015, Steve Steiner, a former Artistic Director who was leading a team to buy the closed theatre, was presented with their funds of $210.97 to assist in the attempts to purchase and save the theatre.

Now, two years later the purchase is complete, Mr. Steiner has returned as Producing Artistic Director and the theatre will reopen in Summer 2017. In a statement Mr. Steiner said:

"Two years ago in early 2015 the students at Beach Haven School did a fund drive to help save Surflight Theatre. They gave me this canister two years ago with their fundraising total of $210.97. Tomorrow, Monday May 1, 2017, we will deposit this into our bank account now that Surflight Theatre is reopening. Thank you Beach Haven School students. "

The children's money will be deposited and used towards the work needed to reopen the theatre.
