BWW Blog: Sarah Osman - 2016 Reflection: THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH (TSOOT 2)

2016 has been an eventful year! There has been a fair share of craziness, but I've managed to stay busy doing things that I love, and that's what it's really about. I can honestly reflect on this year and say that it's been 12 impactful months. Looking back at recent events, I can say that being apart of my school's fall drama was one of the most notable things of the year.

A little more than a month ago I had the honor of performing in my school, the OCVTS: Performing Arts Academy's production of Thornton Wilder's The Skin of Our Teeth and boy was it a wild ride! The journey was incredible- from preparing to auditioning; being cast, rehearsing, and then ultimately performing in front of audiences, to me writing this today.

For some time I wasn't sure if I'd come to terms with the show being over (as it always is when a show ends), however I find myself continuously looking back at the memories I've made over the course of the three months we had preparing for the show.

I remember finding out what the play was and the announcement of the show. I remember reading and rereading the play to get a better understanding of it. I remember the audition nerves I had before walking in the room. I remember callbacks for Sabina and Mrs. Antrobus. I remember opening the acceptance letter.

I remember being cast as Sabina and thinking- "what?!?!" then crying tears of joy. I couldn't believe it! It was insane because I had never played a part like Sabina and really wanted to break out of the usual. I couldn't believe I was being gifted with such an amazing role and that I had been given such an incredible opportunity.

Through rehearsals I made so many wonderful friends who are so amazing and talented. Through the guidance of the director, Mr. Bollinger, I grew as an actor and was able to break out of my comfort zone. He allowed everyone in the cast to feel comfortable and made every rehearsal count. Making sure that everyone was being given attention and not overworked, we were always doing something to better the show and every note we received helped us grow as performers.

The process was amazing and I had so much fun working on the show! Our end were the shows on November 17th to 19th and I couldn't have asked for it any other way. As a senior in high school, this was my last fall drama at the Performing Arts Academy- and it was perfect. I was surrounded by the best group of people, working on a show that I grew so close to, and I loved every moment of it.
