Award Winning Acapella Ensemble Sweet Honey In The Rock Celebrates Holydays at SOPAC
Globally renowned a cappella ensemble Sweet Honey in The Rock will bring their award-winning talents to the South Orange Performing Arts Center Stage Saturday, December 2 at 8 p.m. The Grammy Award-winning quartet has made it their mission to educate, entertain, and empower audiences and communities through the dynamic vehicles of a cappella singing and American Sign Language interpretation.
Over the years, Sweet Honey in the Rock has released a multitude of albums with an array of cover songs that range from sweet Gospel to cultural revolutionary hits. Their most recent record, #LoveInEvolution is their first full-length album comprised of all original songs. The critically-acclaimed album touches on the culturally complex relevance of our times-Social Justice, Human and Civil Rights-the album also integrates many of the complex sounds of African American musical genres such as Blues, Spirituals, traditional Gospel hymns, Rap, Reggae, African chants, Hip-Hop, and ancient lullabies and Jazz improvisations.
Sweet Honey In The Rock continues to stretch their artistic boundaries as live performers to produce a sound filled with soulful four-part harmonies and intricate rhythms, which is accompanied by hand percussion and bass. Sweet Honey In The Rock is currently comprised of Nitanji Bolade Casel, Louis Robinson, Aisha Khalil and Carol Maillard.
