Art House Productions presents DEEP BREATH

By:

DEEP BREATH is poetic and theatrical tour de force that creates an on stage dialogue about race, the justice system and most importantly, healing the community.

Eric Garner's last words were "I Can't Breathe." This piercing one-man poetic and theatrical show challenges the community to start the healing process as well as find answers. MrJeffDess presents a painfully honest performance inspired by the protest, hope, and sadness. DEEP BREATH directly engages with the audience and is a tour de force, energetic experience. Through intense storytelling, MrJeffDess pushes and almost dares the audience to take the deepest breaths possible in order to find answers.

MrJeffDess is a dynamic public speaker, author, emcee and professor of Haitian descent. The native New Yorker known as the Disruptive Educator has been performing on stages for over 10 years.

His performance career began as a young emcee who opened for such artists as Common, Talib Kweli, 112, Black Rob and the Arsonists. After studying at St. John's University and earning a B.A. and M.A in English literature, MrJeffDess turned his attention to spoken word poetry. It was during this time, he performed and honed his skills at famed New York City locations as The Nuyorican Poet's Café and Bowery Poetry Club.

MrJeffDess has performed and delivered lectures at over 25 universities including Columbia and Princeton University has performed globally in Indonesia, Italy, and South Africa. He's been featured in Ebony Magazine, The Root, and Urban Cusp Magazine.

His latest endeavor of writing and performing haiku poetry led him to the creating the House of Haiku series. This series of shows are an interactive artistic explosion. While using the haiku poem as a voice box, these shows will also include other mediums featuring, vocal, dance and instrumental portions as well as live painting and more.

MrJeffDess is the author of five books, including his latest, Trill Motivation. He's worked in student affairs for over 10 years and is the Co-Founder of the Educational Platform, Trill or Not Trill.
