Peterborough Players Sets Summer 2016 Season

By:

The Peterborough Players announced today the lineup of productions for the 2016 summer season. This year marks the 83rd anniversary since the Players presented their first production at the barn theatre in 1933.

Artistic Director for over 20 years, Gus Kaikkonen outlined the upcoming 2016 season:

"This season the Players is happy to present a joyous slate of award winning comedies, dramas and new plays. The most famous Socialist named Bernie (until recently), Bernard Shaw will be back on our stage with PYGMALION (Aug 3-14), his best known play. He won the 1938 Academy Award for its screenplay, and he had already won a Nobel Prize for Literature--he remains the only writer to win both. Oh, and he turned down the knighthood he was offered! Alfred Uhry also won the Academy Award for writing the film version of his own play, DRIVING MISS DAISY (June 22 - July 3) -and the Pulitzer Prize when it was originally produced Off Broadway. DAISY opens our season. Yasmina Reza's GOD OF CARNAGE (August 31 - September 11) and Christopher Durang's VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE (July 20 - July 31) both won Broadway's Tony Award for Best Play, and Ms. Reza picked up London's Olivier Award for Best Play, as well. Add to that Chuck Morey's rollicking take on Feydeau, THE LADIES MAN (August 17 - August 28), Sharr White's moving exploration of human foibles, ANNAPURNA (July 6 - July 17), and Stephan Wolfert's autobiographical veteran's tale CRY HAVOC (September 14 - September 18) and you have a summer of programming as varied and exciting as anyone could imagine. The Second Company will be performing the modern children's classic MISS NELSON IS MISSING (June 25, July 1, 2, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 22, 23), and a world premiere version of SHERLOCK! (August, 20, 22, 23, 27), adapted from A. Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes by yours truly. Enjoy!"
