Jaffrey Screens Tony Award Winning Play RED Starring Alfred Molina Image

Jaffrey's River Street Theatre will exclusively screen the critically acclaimed production of John Logan's RED with Alfred Molina (Love is Strange) as Mark Rothko and Alfred Enoch (How To Get Away With Murder) as his assistant on Wednesday, November 7 (2pm & 7pm), Saturday, November 10(7pm) and Sunday, November 11 (2:30pm).

One of the leading artists of the mid-century abstract expressionist style of painting was Mark Rothko (1904-1970). His paintings bewildered many but were eventually hailed by critics and museums around the world. Christie's auction house estimates that one of his paintings may fetch up to $45 million at a sale coming up in two weeks.

Filmed live at Londons's Wyndham Theatre last summer and winner of six Tony® Awards including Best Play, RED comes to American cinemas following hugely successful sold-out runs on both Broadway and the West End. Under the watchful gaze of his young assistant, and the threatening presence of a new generation of artists, Mark Rothko takes on his greatest challenge yet: to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting. RED was directed by multi-award-winner Michael Grandage CBE and written by John Logan (creator of Penny Dreadful). Alfred Molina created the role of Rothko under Grandage back in the original 2009 production.

If you were lucky enough to see the stunning live production of RED at the Peterborough Players in 2015 starring Gus Kaikkonen and Lucas van Engen, you owe it to yourself to see this breathtaking staging as well.

Tickets for RED are $15 each. A discounted ticket of $13 is available for seniors, active military, students, and teachers. Group sales and private screening parties are also available.

More program and schedule information, as well as ticket purchases, can be found at RiverSt.org or by calling the RST Box Office (603) 532-8888. The after hours box office can be reached by calling OvationTix at (866) 811-4111. The River Street Theatre is located in downtown Jaffrey, New Hampshire at 6 River Street. The River Street Theatre is sponsored by Grove Street Fiduciary, Coca-Cola, the Board of Trustees of the Park Theatre, Janet S. Grant, Betty Locke, Owen Houghton and the James F. & Fernande Kelly Charitable Trust.
