Nashville Ballet Stages Traditional Musical Fable for All-Age Audience

Nashville Ballet will perform the beloved fable of Peter and the Wolf to an all-ages crowd for a one-time engagement in the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC) Polk Theater on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m.

In the classic tale, brave young Peter mistakenly leaves his grandfather's garden gate open, allowing the duck to escape and unleashing an adventure to remember. He must save the duck from an unlucky encounter with a wolf. Along the way, he meets several animal characters that contribute to his adventure.

"Because each character is illustrated by one particular instrument and one costumed dancer, Peter and the Wolf is the perfect way to introduce even very young children to the relationship between dance and music," Nashville Ballet CEO and Artistic Director Paul Vasterling said. "Children learn the relationship between movement and rhythm, and can begin to appreciate new forms of art while listening to the narrator explain a story that they can understand."

Vasterling choreographed the familiar story, and iconic Tennessee artist/illustrator Norris Hall designed all sets and costumes for the performance.

Hall is well-known across the state for his colorful, whimsical illustrations of animals and people on every type of medium from framed prints and clocks to wall-sized murals. He also designed two specialty Tennessee license plates that raise funds for the Tennessee Arts Commission-a cartoon fish with a large mouthy grin and a sunglass-wearing cat playing the saxophone.

Tickets for this family-friendly ballet are $14 for adults and $11 for children 12 years old and younger.
