Linda Davis to lead stage performance workshop at Renaissance Center

Bringing more than 20 years of professional experience to back her up, Grammy Award-winning country music recording artist Linda Davis will lead two Stage Performance 101 Workshops for aspiring entertainers at The Renaissance Center in Dickson on Thursday, April 28.

"My objective is to allow the artist to be an individual, to always be themselves, not say what I would say or move across the stage like I would move across the stage," Davis explains. "Sometimes we just need to see new ideas in action and then we can make them our own."

With her years of experience on stage, Davis has an eye for laying out the techniques that set a professional apart from an aspiring artist, and in helping an artist find their "comfort zone" on stage. Whether a client is preparing for a pageant and her needs are for a one-song event, or an artist is developing a 45-minute set with a band, Davis can assess the need as well as the abilities of the client and set them on their way to a successful performance.

"We're thrilled to have Linda back at The Renaissance Center!" states Kelli Workman, music education director. "Her workshops are extremely popular and always sell out. We even have people who have come from out-of-state for her performance advice!"

Davis will be featured in two three-hour Stage Performance 101 worshops on Thursday, April 28, (one at 3:30 p.m., the second at 7 p.m.) The cost is $120 with a 12-student limit for each session.

Davis has Stage Performance 101 clients that range in age and aspirations, from an eight-year-old girl who is entering a talent contest, to the woman who wants to improve her church solos; from the pageant contestant who hopes to win at the state level to the new recording artist who needs a 10 song set of music to flow for 45 minutes; each benefit from the critiques and experience of working one-on-one with Davis.

Each student is asked to bring his/her tracks (no lead vocals; background vocals are fine) one ballad and three or four up-tempo songs. Original songs are fine and bring an instrument if you play. Davis won a Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Collaboration for "Does He Love You," a duet that she recorded with Reba McEntire. She toured and recorded duets with McEntire for several years, as well as singles for Capitol Records, Arista Records and Dreamworks Records. Linda also partnered with Randy Travis, to record the song "Make It Through" for the award winning movie Prince of Egypt. Throughout her career, Davis has played to sold-out crowds with the likes of Garth Brooks, George Strait, Reba McEntire and Kenny Rogers.

"In this business, there are people who can sing and there are singers. Linda Davis is absolutely one of the best singers in the business," Rogers says. "I defy you to find anyone who's ever worked with her or heard her sing to disagree with that statement. She is the best."

Married to Lang Scott, an award-winning singer, songwriter and musician who won the first season of Be A Star, a talent series on The Nashville Network, Davis is mother to Hilary Scott, the co-lead singer for the Grammy Award-winning group Lady Antebellum.
