KB Productions to Present Staged Reading of F L I T, 4/17-19
KB Productions, the team behind the recent sold-out smash, Southern Baptist Sissies, and the hard hitting Mysterious Skin, continues to cement its reputation in the Nashville theater community by presenting edgy, left of center productions that have not previously been seen on Music City stages. Up next for the innovative theater company is a staged reading of the new coming of age play, FLIT, by Nashville resident John Wesley Lasiter.
FLIT exposes many of the problems which plague our society, including homophobia, breast cancer, HIV/AIDS, addictions, and the struggle for human beings to find where they fit in the world. The light is shed on each of these topics through the eyes of FLIT, a flamboyant and clueless man who, at the age of 28, lives with his parents until his father kicks him out.
FLIT's best friend, a female singer who is only able to find work at a drag bar by pretending to be a man impersonating a woman, takes him in with the belief that she can convert him from gay to straight. Ultimately she kicks him out and FLIT ends up on the street alone. FLIT is taken in by a street ministry and has to deliver condoms at night to hookers. An unlikely friendship develops between FLIT and Lulu, a drug-addicted prostitute, who teaches him some important lessons about life, love, and society. FLIT is a comedy/drama which takes the audience on a hilarious journey of discovery. In addition to the laughter there are moments of sadness, anger, and even wonder as the story intentionally leaves the audience with a cliff hanger question. In addition to his writing, Lasiter is a well-known actor in Nashville's theater community. FLIT is the first of his original scripts to be released for production. "KB Productions is proud to be involved in the workshop process of this play," says show director L.T Kirk. The cast, Kirk and Lasiter will participate in interactive audience feedback and Q&A sessions after each performance. Some of Nashville's top actors head the cast including Cinda McCain, James Rudolph, Francine Berk Graver, Bryce Conner, Molly Breen, Nikki Nelson-Hicks, Chad David Webb, Barkari King and Charletta (CJ) Jordan The show runs one weekend only, April 17-19, at The Darkhorse Theater, 4610 Charlotte Ave in Nashville'.
