A. Sean O'Connell will direct the Middle Tennessee premiere of Avery Crozier's Eat the Runt, opening Friday, October 16 at Darkhorse Theatre, 4610 Charlotte Avenue in Nashville. The contemporary comedy will continue at Darkhorse through October 24.

In the play, "Crozier toys with ideas of perception, political correctness and societal and cultural norms as we follow a job applicant through an art museum interview process," O'Connell said.

Her cast features Adele Akin as Sidney, Reischa Feuebach as Jean, C. Anthony Just as Merritt, Marc Mazzone as New Merritt, Lily Palmer as Chris, Frank Preston as Royce and Lisa Marie Wright as Hollis.

O'Connell explained that the playwright suggests in his script that some productions may actually be cast by audience members attending a given performance.

"We are not going to be able to have the audience cast the show," O'Connell said. "If we spent all day together we might have time. But we don't and I really regret that."

Nonetheless, O'Connell said, audiences will enjoy the play and its unorthodox approach.

Produced by Robert O'Connell for GroundWorks Theatre, performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m. through October 24. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors.
