Montana Repertory Theatre, the professional theatre-in-residence at the University of Montana, is pleased to announce that it is in the process of creating a pool of twenty writers to be part of the Rep's new 5 on 5 Play Slam project.
Five times between August and April, a prompt will be sent to the Play Slam Pool. Those 20 playwrights will have a week to write a fifteen-minute play based on the prompt and return it to the Rep for anonymous review. Five of the newly written plays will be chosen to make up that 5 on 5 Play Slam. The selected playwrights will then have a week to meet with a director and complete rewrites, and a week to rehearse their pieces twice. Each three-week cycle will be capped by a staged reading in UM's Masquer Theatre. Any and all playwrights are welcome and encouraged to apply for the Play Slam Pool by submitting a 10-page sample of their writing to the Rep. The sample need not be a full play: part of a play that demonstrates the writer's talent and craft will suffice. The deadline for the sample submission is Monday, August 8 at 5:00 pm.
