Montana Rep Announces 4 BY 4 PLAY SLAM!

By: Nov. 09, 2017

Montana Rep is pleased to present the second installment of its 4 for 4 Episode Slam play reading series on Sunday, November 19, at 2:00 PM in the Masquer Theatre. This series of four afternoons of four 24-minute plays is the logical follow up to last year's 5 on 5 Play Slam, a series of five afternoons during which 15-minute plays were presented.

Expanding to 24 minutes challenges the local pool of twelve writers in a new way, asking them to create work in a longer format-examining the length required for half-hour comedy and drama for television. Montana Rep's COLONY program is delighted to be continuing its playwright-development initiative with this entertaining and though-provoking project.

One month prior to each reading date, the twelve writers in the 4 for 4 pool are given a prompt, which for this round is "faith." Writers then have three weeks to write and present a 24-page manuscript to Montana Rep. The plays are then anonymously adjudicated by staff and qualified readers at the University of Montana. The Rep assigns directors to and casts the four top-ranked scripts. One-day rehearsals are held before the Sunday readings, when we all gather to celebrate the writers who were selected.

SELECTED WRITERS FOR THIS ROUND: Rita Barkey, Cathy Capps, Shannon Sivertsen and Kathy Witkowsky.

Please join us November 19 at 2:00 PM as 4 for 4 examines "FAITH." A minimum donation of $5 is requested at the door.
