Alpine Theatre Project Launches 15th Season With Free Play Reading And Burlesque Night At The Opera

Every year, Alpine Theatre Project inspires thousands of community members and students by bringing professional singers, actors, and dancers to the Flathead Valley to perform and teach. Over 350 local students find their inner confidence and creativity each year through ATP's after-school and summer theatre education programs. ATP is continuing this work for its 15th season with a full year of professional and educational programs for the community, starting with a free reading of the Olivier-Award winning drama, Death and the Maiden, on January 29 at 7pm and an exclusive mix of opera and tantalizing burlesque on Valentine's Day weekend.

ATP is continuing its popular pop-up play reading series presented free to the public on January 29 at 7pm at the home of Nancy Gordley, 345 Spring Prairie Rd in Whitefish, with the psychological thriller, Death and the Maiden, by Ariel Dorfman. In this taut, psychological thriller, the mysterious Dr. Miranda ends up staying the night with Gerardo and his wife Paulina, much to the latter's dismay. Attacking him in his sleep, Paulina binds and gags Miranda, convinced that he is the sadistic doctor who captured and tortured her years before as a political prisoner. The play reading stars David Ackroyd, Betsi Morrison, Becky Rygg, & Luke Walrath. The Outside the Box series is presented free to the public by Great Northern Brewing Company.

Alpine Theatre Project continues its year-round programming in February, with a tantalizingly sexy night at the opera with OperaLesque, February 14-16 at the ATP Garage, 6464 Hwy 93 in Whitefish. OperaLesque will feature some of the greatest opera singers in the nation from the Metropolitan Opera and New York City Opera mixed with tantalizing burlesque. Patrons can enjoy chocolate fondue and cocktails at the ATP Garage while being treated to vocal (and physical) virtuosity including aerial acts all around them. This isn't your typical night at the opera! The production includes performances on February 14 & 15 at 7:30pm and a special exotic late-night show on February 16 at 9pm for adults only. Only 60 seats are available per performance.

Starring in OperaLesque:

  • Glenn Seven Allen, Tenor - recently starred in New York City Opera's acclaimed production of Brokeback Mountain and starred in ATP & Glacier Symphony's combined concert production of Sweeney Todd

  • Melanie Long, Mezzo-Soprano - recently starred in New York City Opera's world tour of Carmen, and is a member of the acclaimed burlesque troupe, the Hot Box Girls

  • Sharin Apostolou, Soprano - frequent performer with New York City Opera, Utah Opera, Central City Opera, and Opera Delaware, and performed in Yuletide Affair 9 at ATP

  • Jorrell Williams, Baritone - starred in Intimate Apparel at the Metropolitan Opera and was a featured soloist with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis

  • Marcy Richardson, Soprano - known as "the singing aerialist," and has performed with New York City Opera, Opera Columbus, and the acclaimed burlesque variety troupe, Company XIV
