In 1937, America has finally come out of the crisis thanks to the New Deal and don't think a moment find themselves in war four years later. It is a happy and creative - time Hollywood is in full golden age. Amelia al ballo, Gian Carlo Menotti's first success, is a reflection of those carefree years. The work recounts the horrors of an Italian socialite obsessed with the success of his appearance at the great ball of the season. Menotti is deploys a remarkable melodic vein and a subtle although corrosive humour. When he composed The phone or L'Amour à trois, the world comes to be ravaged by a global war and society undoubtedly moved. This time, though that of comic gasoline, the work speaks of a very modern concern: the emergence of new technologies within romantic relationships. It is clear that more than sixty years after the creation of The Telephone, the human being always found no solution to this problem...
It is an event, Placido Domingo will conduct for the first time at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo. It will be for him an opportunity to present two books he loves and wants to defend on the biggest stages.
