Amahl and the Night Visitors Directed by Marcie Berglund and in collaboration with East Metro Symphony Orchestra. The evening is designed for families of all ages and will include Christmas carols and a holiday reception with the Three Wise Men following the show.Synopsis: The tender, heartwarming story of Amahl and the Night Visitors, is one of the most popular of American operas. It was written specifically for children who can easily relate to a child with a head full of dreams. It remains an inspiring story of how faith, charity, unselfish love and good deeds can work miracles. The story is simple and touching: Amahl and his mother live in poverty. The boy is imaginative and when he tells his mother he has seen a bright star, she thinks this another one of his lies, still more so when he reports the approach of three kings, who seek shelter for the night. As they sleep, Amahl's mother tries to steal from her guests, seeking money to alleviate their poverty. The page wakes up and seizes her, while Amahl tries to defend her with his crutch. When the kings take leave, Amahl offers them his crutch as a present for the Holy Child that is the object of their journey. At this the boy is miraculously cured and joins the kings on their journey to Bethlehem.

Dad was (in fact) one of the great pioneers in industrial efficiency and he sings to his large family, "What works in the factory works in the home." His older daughters, however, rebel against their father. Anne, the oldest, sings of her coming independence "On My Own," unaware that her father has a heart condition and is driving them toward super-efficiency so the family will be able to survive better when he's gone. What Dad doesn't realize is that Anne has grown up. The breaking apart of Anne and her father and then their coming to a special maturity and mutual respect give meaning and emotion to what is otherwise a delightful and original comedy romp!
