Adapted from the Greek myth, The Minotaur follows the story of the half-man/half-bull; his sister, Ariadne; and a hero, Theseus, who would kill the beast and sail away with Ariadne. However, in this version of the tale the Minotaur is aware that he exists within a story and has grown tired of it always ending with his death. An updated Greek chorus attempts to keep the narrative on track but other characters don't make it easy.

Former Pro Rata company member Amber Bjork returns to direct the production. Speaking about what drew her to the play she said, "I love the way these characters experience time and awareness in the story. They slowly become aware of their ability to choose and the fact that stories can change. And yet, ironically, all the roles are played by actors who are following a set script, playing characters inside a myth who are waking to their own free will."

Bjork added, "This is a tale that has been told many times over the millennia and picked up all of the detritus of human history, so it's full of anachronisms and growth. It is one of those meta plays that does not trip over its own cleverness, but is written in a really beautiful way."

Kip Dooley portrays the Minotaur with co-stars Stanzi D. Schalter as Ariadne and Derek Meyer as Theseus. The cast also features Brian Columbus, Noë Tallen, and Mike Tober as the chorus.

Since 2001 Pro Rata, Latin for "in proportion," has produced smart, vivid, varied, and gutsy theater in the Twin Cities. Focusing on the text of the play, the company offers performers and audiences the chance to engage the characters, themes, and language more completely. Ranging from classic dramas to modern black comedies, Theatre Pro Rata produces scripts that bring visceral theatrical experiences to the stage.
