Theatre Coup D'Etat Presents THE TEMPEST

Two-time Ivey Award-winning Theatre Coup d'Etat is proud to present this story of magic, redemption, and the power of self-realization to the Twin Cities. This story is Prospero's, as we feel her experience the bitterness and rage of betrayal from her brother Antonio, who instead of love choses to take her title, career, and even attempt her life. Escaping by the sheer compassion of her friend Golanzo, Prospero and her daughter Miranda are marooned on an enchanted island, where they find the orphaned creature Caliban and the supernatural Ariel.

Refining her magic on the island for 12 years, Prospero allows her rage and pain to consume and drive the development of her powers, bringing her brother and his court crashing unto the shores in a terrible tempest, the mechanism of her revenge. Watch as Prospero comes dangerously close to becoming that which betrayed her, and finding that her greatest power lies not within her magic and manipulation, but in the ability to let go of the past and move forward as a more compassionate version of herself.

The show will feature Prospero played by award-winning local actor Meri Golden, who received the "Classical Performance of the Year" award in Lavender Magazine for her portrayal of the Nurse in Theatre Coup d'Etat's production of Romeo & Juliet. Meri will be reunited with director James Napoleon Stone, who received an IVEY Award for his co-direction of Hamlet, "Best Director" in City Pages for Equus, and MN Theatre Award nomination "Exceptional New Work" for his adaptation of Moby Dick. Combining actor-driven movement, a blend of live and engineered soundscape, and the black box seating of SpringHouse Ministry Center, Theatre Coup d'Etat's production of The Tempest is can't-miss experience.

Admission is sliding scale, $18-$40. Tickets available at www.theatrecoupdetat.com or call 1-800-838-3006. SpringHouse Ministry Center is located at 610 W 28th St.
